Senior Support Worker 
Children's Residential Home 

INTRODUCTION

Our Ofsted-registered residential home, offers support for up to 2 young people, aged between 7 and 17, of all sexes, with suspected mental health trauma, educational, sensory, and complex behavioural difficulties (EBD).

Legacy Youth Care is looking to appoint a Senior Residential Support Worker, who will work in our new residential children's home based in NE4 postcode. ​

​

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Senior residential support worker is to be responsible for effective day-to-day running of the residential home, to be responsible for a team of staff and work allocations, as well as undertaking direct work with children in the residential home when necessary. ​

​

We are seeking a passionate and visionary, tenacious individual to lead and oversee the daily tasks and operations of our children’s home. The ideal candidate will ensure a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment for the children in our care.  

​

Whilst non-contractual and not exhaustive, the following lists the key areas for which the individual is responsible and accountable in the role of Senior Support Worker ('the Applicant') with Legacy Youth Care (LYC) Ltd (‘the Employer’). The individual’s support is required in developing the job description and role. 

 

You will:​

​​

  • Put children first, in all that you do.

  • Ensure the day-to-day delivery and effective implementation of the home in accordance with the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards 2015.

  • Support staff teams in delivering quality care and support for our children in accordance with the Service Plan.

  • Create and maintain a culture within the home that aligns with the values and ethos of the Children's Residential service.

  • Deliver Company's responsibilities under the Care Standards Act 2000 and ensuring that you contribute to the homes operation in accordance with all relevant legislation for a children's home.

  • Help to run the home according to the Statement of Purpose to create a warm and stimulating environment that meets the assessed needs of young people.

  • Set an example of practice that contributes to a performance culture that delivers results through rigorous challenge, disciplined delivery, and continual improvement.

  • Provide leadership and direction to staff, setting out service goals, conveying how they support the fundamental purpose of the service.

Details:​

​

  • Responsible to: leadership and management

  • Hours:  minimum monthly of 150 hours of shift patterns, with and without sleep in's.

  • Qualified with Level 4 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent): £15.50 p/h (base salary of £30,225 per annum up to £34,650 with up to 10 sleeps per month)

  • Qualified with Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent): £15 p/h (base salary of £29,2500 per annum up to £34,650 with up to 10 sleeps per month)

  • Sleep-in duties at £45 per night

  • Permanent, full time position

  • Minimum of 37.5 hours per week

  • Holidays: 5.6 weeks  

  • Start of position: TBC.

​REQUIREMENTS​

​

  • A minimum of NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Residential / Health & Social Care working with children in a residential setting (preferably Level 5 Leadership & Management Qualification in residential childcare or commitment to undertake this when in post).

  • At least 12 months of experience in a supervisory role in residential children's setting.

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills with administrative experience in case recording, rota preparation and report writing.

  • Up-to-date safeguarding training and a willingness to pursue further training.

  • Flexibility to ensure staffing needs are met, including being available to step in when required.

  • Comfortable in managing behaviours that challenge, with a commitment to positive, restorative approaches.

  • An invincible positive outlook and a "rule-breaking" attitude to tackle complex challenges head-on.​

  • Experience in leading a staff team

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent childcare practice in their own direct work and able to mentor staff in good practice.

  • Clean driving licence and ability to drive with young passengers held for at least 12 months.

  • This is a regulated activity and a clear Enhanced DBS for working with children is required.

  • Right to work in the UK and be aged 21 or over.

  • Willingness to work patterned shifts (days, nights, weekends and holidays)

WHAT IS NEXT?

When successful you will be invited to meet us face to face, for a formal 1-hour long interview.

An enhanced DBS 'Disclosure and Barring Service' check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children's and Adults' Barred List checks will be required for this role.

OUR CRITERIA

Due to our legal obligations, we can only accept applications from people 21 years old and above.

 

This role requires a minimum of Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or an equivalent qualification. 

​

In addition to the above, to meet the criteria of the Level 3 Diploma, you must have lived in the UK / EEA for the last 3 years and you must also have the right to remain and work in the United Kingdom for the duration of the study programme. Failure to achieve the Level 5 Diploma for Residential Childcare or losing your right to remain and work in the United Kingdom may result in the termination of your employment.

Our senior team is expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle, to support our young people to attend appointments, activities or trips as agreed. 

​
