Deputy Manager
Children's Residential Home 

INTRODUCTION

Our Ofsted-registered residential home, located in NE4 postcode (Tyne and Wear) will support 2 young people, aged between 7 and 17 with suspected mental health trauma, educational, sensory, and complex behavioural difficulties (EBD). 

 

Legacy Youth Care is looking to appoint a Deputy Manager, who will work in our new residential children's home based in NE4 postcode. ​

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Deputy Manager to help and shape a new residential children's care home from the ground up, with their voice valued every step of the way, and learn from the very experienced leadership team.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Deputy Manager is to be responsible for effective day-to-day running of the residential home, to be responsible for a team of staff and work allocations, as well as undertaking direct work with children in the residential home when necessary. In addition, DM will deputise responsibilities of all aspects of the residential premises.

We are seeking a passionate and visionary, tenacious and driven Deputy Manager to lead and oversee the daily operations of our children’s home. The ideal candidate will ensure a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment for the children in our care.  

​

Whilst non-contractual and not exhaustive, the following lists the key areas for which the individual is responsible and accountable in the role of Deputy Manager ('the Applicant') with Legacy Youth Care (LYC) Ltd (‘the Employer’). The individual’s support is required in developing the job description and role. 

 

You will:​

 

  • Support the Registered Manager in ensuring full compliance with company policies, procedures, and all Ofsted regulations.

  • Act as the Registered Manager in their absence, maintaining operational consistency and standards.

  • Acts a Designated Safeguarding Lead. 

  • Safeguard and promote the welfare, development, and rights of all young people within the home.

  • To ensure that you and the staff team implement and adhere to the Safeguarding Policy, Working Together 2019, and placing Local Authority' Safeguarding procedures

  • Ensure that you and the staff work in accordance with the Statement of Purpose and Function of the home, updating  relevant documents as directed by your Registered Manager

  • Have a good understanding of the Care Standards Act 2000 and Children’s Home (England) Regulations 2015.

  • Demonstrate effective leadership to direct and support the staff team to deliver person centered childcare working towards the best outcomes for each young person

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge, implement, adhere to and give guidance to other staff on all relevant legislation for Children’s Homes.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, The Quality Care Standards and the SCCIF, under which each home is measured and judged against and promptly implement any recommendations or address requirements to improve the service after any Ofsted inspection.

  • To ensure that you and the staff team implement and adhere to Safeguarding Policy, Working Together 2019 and Local Authority Safeguarding procedures

  • As directed by your Manager ensure that the home is fit for purpose by ensuring that Fire Regulations and Health and Safety Regulations are met, Quality Assurance and Regulation 44 Reports action points are addressed promptly.

  • Supporting the Manager in the performance and development of staff by conducting regular supervisions and annual appraisal process

  • Participate effectively in the on call duty system.

  • Complete appropriate training within the required timeframes, ensuring that an up to date training record is maintained.

  • Undertaking other duties as may be deemed appropriate from time to time.

  • Work cohesively and in partnership with team members and other professionals

  • Plan, manage, and lead shifts effectively, ensuring children are safe, engaged, and supported at all times.

  • Ensure Placement Plans are followed consistently and tailored to the young person’s needs.

  • Promote and support educational attainment, ensuring consistent attendance and engagement in learning.​​

​REQUIREMENTS​

​

  • A minimum of NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Residential / Health & Social Care working with children in a residential setting (preferably Level 5 Leadership & Management Qualification in residential childcare or commitment to undertake this when in post).

  • Desired 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role in residential children's setting.

  • Good literacy and numeracy skills with administrative experience in case recording, rota preparation and report writing.

  • Up-to-date safeguarding training and a willingness to pursue further training.

  • Flexibility to ensure staffing needs are met, including being available to step in when required.

  • Comfortable in managing behaviours that challenge, with a commitment to positive, restorative approaches.

  • Exemplary leadership and mentorship qualities, capable of selecting and galvanising a passionate team with charisma and vision.

  • An invincible positive outlook and a "rule-breaking" attitude to tackle complex challenges head-on.​

  • Experience in leading a staff team, carrying out supervisions, appraisals, coaching, mentoring, and inductions.

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent childcare practice in their own direct work and able to mentor staff in good practice.

  • Clean driving licence and ability to drive with young passengers held for at least 12 months.

  • This is a regulated activity and a clear Enhanced DBS for working with children is required.

  • Right to work in the UK and be aged 23 or over.

Details:​

  • Responsible to: Registered Manager.

  • Salary range starting at £36,000 - £41,000 per annum
    (dependent on qualifications & experience)

  • Permanent, full time position

  • Minimum of 37.5 hours per week

  • 28 days paid annual leave entitlement

  • Start of position: TBC.

OUR CRITERIA

Due to our legal obligations, we can only accept applications from people 22 years old and above.

 

This role requires a Level 5 Diploma in Residential Childcare or an equivalent qualification. If you do not currently hold this qualification (or equivalent) but are successful in the interview and meet the enrolment criteria (including English and Maths skills), you will be enrolled in a Level 5 Diploma in Residential Childcare, subject to funding.

​

In addition to the above, to meet the criteria of the Level 3 Diploma, you must have lived in the UK/EEA for the last 3 years and you must also have the right to remain and work in the United Kingdom for the duration of the study programme. Failure to achieve the Level 5 Diploma for Residential Childcare or losing your right to remain and work in the United Kingdom may result in the termination of your employment.

Our senior team is expected to have a valid driving licence to drive in the UK and access to a vehicle, to support our young people to attend appointments, activities or trips as agreed. 

​
